Suggested Summer Reading Lists
Every year there is a nationwide theme for summer reading. This year it is all things science: Fizz, Boom, Read! Please see the Microsoft Word documents to the right for the Osgood's suggested reading lists. The books are available at the Paul Pratt Memorial Library. Make sure to stop in and see Mrs. Sharon Moody, Children's Librarian, for help in finding these books and for other reading suggestions. Have a great summer!
Second Grade Researchers
Our second graders have been working hard in the library! Using the Super 3 Research Model, they selected one wild animal or bird and researched its life. The Super 3 has three steps: plan, do and review. Each class presented their research packets to each other at the end of the project during library class.
Taking what they've learned from their animal projects, second graders later in the school year work on their Ancestry Research projects. Each child selects a country to research from which his/her ancester came. Each class comes to the library with their teacher outside of library class time and they learn all sorts of exciting facts about their countries. Once they finish their research in the library, the class completes a culminating Power Point presentation in the computer lab.
Birthday Book Club
The Osgood Library is excited to announce that the Birthday Book Club will be back again this year for its sixth year! Our students' generous donations of books to celebrate their birthdays provided many new and classic books to the library's collection. Look for a letter that goes home the first week of your child's birthday month for information on how your child can join this club.
Kindergarten, first and second grade classes visit the library once a week for forty minutes. We have a readaloud, library lesson and checkout time. Kindergarten classes check out one book to keep in the classroom, first grade classes check out one book to take home and second graders check out one book in the month of September and two books beginning in October to take home.
The following lists are suggestions that follow the nationwide science theme of Fizz, Boom, Read.
